Eulogies Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt prepared to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can finally articulate my loss into words," shared Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the production, commenting that he cannot recall "one day without mirth".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob valued immensely. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese noted.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge agreed to bar the disclosure of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A judicial mandate placed a restriction on the cases to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
After the killings, public figures shared divergent responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering divisive statements that were broadly criticized by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his program, Rogan labeled the comments as "disappointing" and remarked they demonstrated a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an associate should have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the tragedy was made.
